The mighty Peace River
This is a memory from my first summer canoeing the mighty Peace River. I was beginning to learn about the river, it’s different seasons and moods. On this day I was equipped for overnight camping, with all my tent and camping gear. The river is very high and there are more hazards to be careful of as the waters move with increased velocity and many of the shore line trails are under water so lining the canoe upstream is not an option in some stretches of the river.
I went far down river on this expedition. I set up camp on one of the islands to get away from the Grizzly Bear sow and her cub. When I awoke and began to scout out the island further I found her tracks even there. Well, this is her territory. This valley belongs to her, the wolves and the mountain lions.
